As above, my car seems to be totally flat on power upto about 2000rpm, when it seems to be adequate, high speed motorway (well 70mph ;)) smooth as silk. i have to apply about 1700 rpm to set off otherwise it will stall, defo no second gear set offs here.Anything which allows revs to drop below 1700rpm small hills etc in 4th means get out and walk because it would be faster. i have just run a paperclip test following guidance on here and i got code 12 and 74??
-
code 12 is the start code and means nothing.
code 74 doesn't exist are you sure it's not 64.
-
checked it twice, but i will check again and make sure. right have checked it again and the missus checked and it is deffo 74?? trust my car to be awkward :-?
-
This got me on the fault code data sheet the last code is 65 then it jumps to code 81 as seen below

Check the small vacuum hoses on and around the egr solenoid and map sensor. Make sure they have not been connected on the wrong nipples and that none of them are blocked.

No, the engine management light has never been on while driving, but i was wondering as the car was stored for more than four years whether the condensation/damp has allowed diesel bug to form. looking at the pics for stripping the in tank lift pump, its possible that the filter could be blocked with slime type substance and rducing the general flow of fuel to the engine, but this make me wonder if it would generate an EML fault for a fueling issue? :-/

It's not a big job to pull the pump and check the filter. When I did mine it was about 80% blocked and no error code showing. :y

as Kneepad sys its easy to clean the lift pump in the tank.
I'd also drain tank and ditch the old fuel and give it a service (oil change air, oil, fuel filter).
also buy 2 forte fuel diesel treatment and put one direct in the new fuel filter and the other in the tank with about 30l of diesel this will clean out the fuel pump+injectors.
As you said its been sitting for four years run it until the 30l of fuel are almost gone then change the fuel filter even if its only done 130miles just incase any crap from the fuel lines has been moved.
As you stay close to the M-way take it for a good italian tune up. once the engine is hot boot the arse out of it red line it in 2nd(breifly) this helps remove carbon built up :y
