About a year ago I fitted new downpipe with Cat. I was assured by everyone it was the right one for my 2.2, but management light remains on and still shows catalytic fault. recently spoke to dealer and motor factor who still insist 2.2 only has one cat showing on all their catalogues, not the experience of members of this forum.any help appreciated thank you. :(
-
What codes are you getting A?
-
Thanks for reply, not sure what code was, management light stayed off for a period after fitting new downpipe then came on again, had it read again showed catalytic fault, that is why I'm considering replacing it if it's faulty
-
Ideally you need someone local with a reader to get the codes out of the ECU, that would help pinpoint the fault. There are a few Scot's members, hopefully one is close by and will pipe up (excuse the pun :-[) and offer.

I have read on this forum that 2.2 has a pre cat.Can anyone expand on that as no one new what i was talking about.

I have read on this forum that 2.2 has a pre cat.Can anyone expand on that as no one new what i was talking about.
the pre-cat should have lamda sensors each side it and it was meant to be improve emissions.
also the cat in the centre section(under car) is only a half-cat.
-
You have a later non-genuine cat. To save money they fitted a single cat box with a lambda either side. It should work pretty much the same though.
-
Except that the cheap pattern cats rarely last longer than 2 years and are mega noisey plus they are known to cause fault codes.
ALL 2.2 petrol Omegas had 2 cats, of that there is no arguement :y
-
I've seen another post 2001 non GM cat that has two boxes.
-
This link was in one of Proz's posts. Don't know if it is of any use to you, but worth a look? :y

More expensive than the last one but another option.

What realy concerns me is that Vx.dealer insists there is only one cat. after logging my REG no, >:( >:(
-
When correct cat is fitted, will EML go out its self or will it have to be switched off. :question :question
-
Just stummbled across this post ... been on me hols ;)
Anyway Vx replaced my cat with a cheap crap one that that had only one "cat" which lasted about 3 weeks before the emissions light came on again .
I bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320396351654&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
as mentioned in the above post and had no problems since .
Just make sure the one you get is the same as the one in the picture ie with a pre-cat :y
-
Thanks Proz, looks promising I'll be in touch shortly, :ydealer also tried to sell me one with one cat for £700+ when I challenged them on that I was shown a diagram of a downpipe with one cat. So much for Vx dealerships. :-?
-
Interesting .. my version of the EPC only shows one cat for the 2.2 .... wonder if your dealer is using the same out-of-date version as I am !!
Might be worth giving AndyC a PM and asking him ... he Knows exactly what he is doing with the vauxhall software !!!
