Hello all. The wife took the mig to work this morning. When she came out tonight it wouldnt start, she got a lift home with a work colleague. I havent been to look at it. She says the engine makes no attemp to start (doesnt turn over) but all the lights come on, radio etc. Might this be a selector switch problem? ie the car thinks its in drive? its a 3.0 Any help appreciated.

if the battery voltage is not adequate miggy doesnt bother turning , check battery
and connections first imo..

Could well be. Also possibly earth wire off engine or problem with ignition switch or starter motor. :-?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to take a good battery with me tomorrow. Any other suggestions?

put ur foot on the brake and handbrake on, when u turn the key move the gearstick from park all the way down and back again, while turning the key, it might just be the selector switch has moved/ came loose, from its normal position, causing it to think its not in park or neutral, mine did this after changing the selector switch and i had to nudge the gear stick ever so slightly for the car to turn.

Thanks, She (the wife) got a lift into work this morning and she's going to give that a try. I'm going tonight if it doesnt start today. Anything else I should check?

Check the lights on the selector switch, then ONLY light that should be on is the actual selected gear..... if the selector itself is starting to fail a common fault is for all/or most, of the lights to come on at random. Often fixable by a goodly clean, but many folks go for a known good "scrapper"
