Title: 25TD Thermostat

As you avid readers will have noticed my old tractor keeps running hot.  the oil flush/change  is pending (note Omegatoy) at the weekend There are  also many other things to check, I thought I might whizz out the thermostat and see what happens. Trouble is where is it and is there an 'how to' . It was changed 2/3 years ago not by me, but the mechanic left the old one in the car and guess what it was stamped up BMW. so 2/3 years on a non-BMW one could be sticking part open I hope.

Read my previous posts.
I changed the bits in order of cheepnis.
Flush,
Stat , pump , Rad GBP180 which cured the problem.

Right on the front of the engine. Between the block and the fan. Look down behind the radiator on the left you will see the hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing. I just had mine out but the photos are crap.

Thanks for that photo. Is this a job from from hell getting the stat out. I'm gonna do a flush 1st as per Osealy's game plan The drain plug is sensibly placed, but I can't see where the bottom hose meets the radiator , for the the back flush action.

Easier to take the rad out to flush it. Cowelling off, Turbo Diesel chamber off, 3 hoses (2 main and an overflow), 3 electrical connectors, the 2 spring clips at the top and Robert is your fathers brother ;) :y

Although I did mine with the rad in place. Air filter box off to get access.  If your doing the radiator flush first then you'd be as well to remove it, as Wellung said.

I'll wager that changing stat will do nothing.  As Welung666 says, flush out rad fully, then start on frequent oil changes. An oil flush may be required, given the previous service history from another thread.
