Title: subframe bushes

hello my taxi has failed mot/plate on deteriotated near and offside rear subframe bushes,has anyone had this job done if so how much would i expect to pay for the subframe bushes and what price to fit them is it a big job(02 2.2 cd auto) cheers ajn

Couple of hours, at the most, if they know what ther are doing, which is not likely tbh. They will probably come out with the usual "whole subframe has to come off" rubbish. However it is possible to do it in an hour with practice, although it can easily run on to half a day....

...so not a straight forward answer.  :(

If your ever passing Reading jcn 10 of the m4 I will do it for you, but with no mot that's not likely...

From £9 upwards on fleabay. I got the Delphi ones at £21.  3rd down on this page.

2nd one down appears to state they fit omega also, they dont.....

Entirely out of curiousity eveyone, (and sorry for hijacking thread), how would the tester know if they are shot? I changed mine a few months back, and I can't see any way of noticing they are shot unless you get them out.

Good question Geoff, I imagine he uses a crowbar/big screwdriver to check for excessive movement and depending on wether or not he got his leg over the night before, it passes or fails.
 My garage told me to scrap my car as the bushes were gone and the subframe had to be dropped to replace them and would cost about £600.

So I bought new bushes, 'but never fitted them'  took the car to another garage. Passed with no comments.

update I bought both bushes £34 europarts and the guy in the garage for the company  I work said he will fit them for £30 so Im going with that thanks for the replys and info  ajn

Given the age of these cars now, and from what i have seen of some of the 03/newer cars, there cant be an omega left with road worthy original rear bushes.

If the car passed an mot and these parts are still original then ,imo, they have missed a fault. Press the knobbly “bump stops” in from the side  and they peal away to show a rusty mess underneith. This means the rubber is seperated, mor fail. Removal usually shows splits on the back where the rubber has torn through. The alloy center spacer also corodes and crumbles.

I doubt the bushes on my car are original. I've had the bottom plate off when I planned to change them, but didn't, as they looked and felt in good condition. The car drives well with no tramlining or excessive tyre wear.
I suspected the first MOT tester just didn't want to, or know how to change them and when he said the subframe had to be dropped I knew there was something not kosher.

Had the bushes fitted today took 30mins both sides not sure if two worked on it at the same time as I went for a coffee, also with a taxi mot its every 6 months and 2 blokes go over it before it passes. My car is  on 138000 miles but when i saw the old bushes the rubber was all rolled away from the metal thanks ajn
