Rather than hijack blue-dream's thread, I'll start my own.
Last two MOTs have had advisories about power steering pump having a leak. It really doesn't amount to much, certainly not enough to merit more than a very occasional level check. Imperceptible loss in terms of the reservoir level, but it does seem to ooze a tiny amount from the shaft seal. I'm pretty confident it isn't the pipes in/out doing the leaking, as most of the oozage seems to head out onto the pulley, the high-up bits of the pump housing being clean and dry.
Is this a common problem with ageing PAS pumps? I presume there isn't a lot I can do about it except replace the pump, if I get fed up with wiping it and the pulley down now and then? Presumably the thing could be disassembled (?), if I fancied a challenge, but spares might be hard to come by I'd've thought. [Edit for clarity] By this I mean spare seals etc., not whole pumps.
TIA for your kind thoughts. :)
