I have noticed that my car has developed a fault when idling and also it suffers from hesitation. It has been serviced recently and the air filter has been changed aswell as the fuel filter. I have checked the vacuum hoses and can't see a fault. I have also put some injection cleaner in the fuel and put some decent petrol (99 ron) in but so far no differenece. Can anyone think what it could be? Also I have the rocker gasket problem and need to replace it could this cause a problem?

Check for oil in plug holes.
Check for air/vac leaks

If your cam cover gasket is leaking oil, chances are some of it will be in the plug wells, as it gets hot this bakes onto the plug leads and causes HT breakdown.
Fix the gasket problem and clean the breathers that caused the gasket to blow, then replace the plug leads and plugs and you should be good to go.

Why do you think the cam covers need replacing?
What engine?

The cam cover gaskets are weeping. There is a smell of oil burning when hot. I can see oil on the too.

Cam cover seals failed allowing oil into the spark plug wells, in turn cooking the plug caps and plugs giving a misfire, all cussed by blocked breathers.
Clean breathers as the guide first, replace cam cover seals and orings with genuine gm only as the guide, clean the oil out of plug wells and see if the miss fire goes but odds are it will need leads, euro car parts do a range at a reasonable price, if it needs plugs gm are cheapest and easiest to do so swap those out first IMO.

Thanks for the info...I will do that. Its not misfiring yet just hunting when idling but obviously it will if I don't address the cam cover problem.

Ah, read your post a bit quick, hunting, possible air leak or idle control valve may need a clean/wash out with carb cleaner.

I'll have a look at the ICV (wont hurt giving a clean anyway).

Do the metal vectra camcovers work on the omega?
