Title: Auto box goes into "limp home" mode on start up
Post by: gazzaw on 13 October 2010, 19:33:52
Hi, I have a dashboard warning light that I am advised shows a gearbox code.  No lights showing on gearbox, except the correct light for gear selected.

If my engine fires up first time, no problems, but if it doesn't fire up immediately, it's like it is in "limp home" mode, but switch engine off and start again (as long as it fires up immediately) then all ok.  It drives superb when selected ok.  Car has just done 75k, I've had the g/box oil checked and it checked out ok, but it was topped up.

Could it be an engine or gearbox sensor ?

Any advice would be much appreciated ;)

gearbox wouldnt stop the car starting, it sounds like the crank sensor, about due at your milage i guess. try and get the codes read, and get the number. will pinpoint it.  :)

Who advised it was related to gearbox. What was the actual code. Very doubtful it would be crank sensor as suggested, rarely fail on the 4-pot.
