Bought an ex police 3.0 v6 estate. Whilst removing some of the redundant wiring i found a black cylinder with a small do
diameter vacuum hose coming off it. It was tucked up behind the glove box. I had a quick flick through the Haynes comic and this website but couldnt find what it was.
What is it? What does it do? And where should the vacuum hose go to?
Ill post a picture up on the weekend.

That sounds like one of the vacuum solenoids that operate the aircon stuff; either the recirc flap or the HBV..

The rule of thumb i found with my ex plod is that if its taped up rather roughly then rip it out lol seriously if it still fastened it aint plod stuff see if you can beat my 3 carrier bags of surplus wiring i removed :y

Sounds like a good rule to follow! Found some seriously chunky stuff under the centre console, and a rather cool little switch hidden behind the centre facia. The biggest problem i have is a stubborn smell of vomit :-? Hence i have ripped out all the interior apart from the dash! Im off to Ashford Vauxhall spares tomorrow interior shopping :y

Are you sure that its not coming from the carpets they can smell badly if they have been wet from a scuttle drain blockage

Deffo not carpets. When i bought the car i was told the smell had been caused by Dogs. My mate suggested it could be a spilt bottle of milk festering. But when i removed the rear seats it became apparent its good old chunder. Not sure if its human or dog, and no, im not going to do a taste test either!!!
Ill post a pic of that vacuum hose up tomorrow. I think its original and not police.

Sorted now. Found the two valves mantioned above, the vacuum line went to one of these. Even had the matching blue strip. Thanks
