Title: V6 facelift spark plug replacement problem.
Post by: Jimmy Jerms on 18 October 2010, 13:02:58
Just replaced the plugs on my V6 but no way could I get to pot 6. Any ideas? Took off the usual air by-pass and wiring loom moved aside but no way could I get a plug spanner to No6.
Also some of the plug bores wer full of engine oil. Where could this be comming from? :-?

Engine oil will be your camcover gaskets leaking - get them replaced before the oil causes a misfire and takes out your DIS with it (because that's a lot more expensive than just replacing the gaskets)

You need a selection of short extension bar & a flexible/universal joint.  ;)
If you think no 6 is bad on a V6, you should try no 6 on a straight six ;)  ;)  ;)

as already said, use selection of extension bars, I found a few different length wobbler bars to be very useful.

The S6 was just by comparison. If you have the right tools ie a short extension that comes level-ish with the top of the rocker cover ....  ;) ;)

Have a look at picture 16 near the bottom of the guide (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1169337137).  Shows a standard short extension (3"?) on a plug socket even gives you room for a torque wrench.  Worked for me!   :y

use a short extension to get it open once undone you can pick it up using a short hose pipe

just to mention once its out make sure when you put in the new one
it is hand tightend using the extention bar on its own,
can be cross threaded very easily if not carefull.

use a telescopic magnet (like car aeriel) to get it out well

A good spark plug socket should have a short section of rubber tube inside to hold onto the spark plug while  you're putting it in or taking it  out   ..... Oooer!  :-?

Or use your tip for removal for insertion - stick a length of vac hose over the end of the spark plug and use that to screw it in until it's well in (plenty of turns) the hose won't turn it anymore.. guarantees you can't cross thread it ;)
