My motor turns over but will not start, just replaced the fuel pump on it. still nothing. Dont think its the camshaft sensor just replaced it last year. Looking for the fuel relay but not sure where it is. Been without a ride for a week, I would really appreciate the help. Love my car and I dont want to give it up, its a 99 Omega Elite. Thanks alot for your help.

Hi
Do a paperclip test for fault codes.

I will, let you know what it says. Thanks

Fuel pump and main engine relays are the 2 purple ones at the back of the triangular box by the battery.
Worth checking both of those.
Does the engine light flash when you're cranking it? If so, likely immobiliser issue.

Had a problem with a v6 a few years back, had no power to pump at fuse but power out of relay so in frustration I linked a supply to pump fuse to start and move the car, after starting removed link and car continued to run had no problem after. :y

Knackered crank sensor will prevent fuel to injectors
-
Just did the paperclip test getting a 12 and a 34 which means nothing. I dont have the equipment to test the relays so will probably buy a new one. Any other ideas?
-
i have some spare relays if need be buddy. they came out my gsi veccy but are the same so i believe. :-/ :)
-
That would be great, I need a Siemens relay #90459642
-
Just had the relay tested today it is good. Gonna hook the battery straight to the fuel pump again tomorrow and see if I missed something. Looks like a good ole tow if that anything else.
-
What's the answer to Kevin's question about dash lights when cranking?
-
On the V6 the fuel pump relay is only turned on once the ecu sees pulses from the crank sensor, ie the immobiliser has to be happy, the engine has to be turning and the crank sensor has to be generating good quality pulses.

I thought the fuel pump ran on ignition on for a few seconds to pressurise the system before start up.

Nope.
-
the 4 pot pressurises the fuel before cranking over, but not every time you turn on the ignition.
I just started the estate (2.5 v6) on monday for the first time in over a year and the pump did not run until the engine was cranked over, even then it only spun over for about 6 seconds before firing up.
If your certain the crank sensor is new/fully working then you should check the wiring to/from its connector, something isnt right.
the car should at least cough

A short story about fuel pump.
A few day's ago changed my pump
Checked the new one before installing worked fine.
After replacing seems to be worse starting the engine.
Checked power, relay, etc all OK.
Bought a new fuel filter, and before changing try to see fuel pressure, it was weak.
So open the tank again to get to the pump.
By chance noticed a small crank at the rubber hose were it has a kneecap.
Probably caused when opened to replace the pump
Changed the hose and the car is perfect.

So since the relays are good, gonna replace crankshaft sensor. If this does not work car is getting towed to a shop. To answer Kevins question yes the engine light is blinking while trying to start. Sorry I have been on the job so I have not been able to check the forum for a while.

In that case, it's an immobiliser issue. Check you still have an immobiliser chip attached to the horseshoe part of the key and it hasn't come loose. :y

Okay I will thanks Kevin will let you know how that goes. What if I try my other key?

Yep. That would be a good place to start. :y
Kevin

Well its not the keys, just tried both of them and same problem.
-
Still no codes when you paperclip it? Immobiliser problem should store a code, I believe. :-/
Kevin
-
only codes are 34 and 12 and those are normal
-
if your ecu light is flashing, after checking the keys are ok, try taking off the cowl round the ignition barell.
See if the key reader is damaged or the connection is loose. failing that its a case of finding a matching ecu/transponder/reader combo.
