Title: Dashboard display lights working in reverse order
Post by: slyj on 26 October 2010, 22:09:02
Hi there to all Omega owners and members,
I have a wee problem with my dashboard lights. The Full Beam, Right Indicator and Fog lights are on constantly but when I use them they go off or blink(indicator) Is this something common or do I have to get an Electrical check for an earthing problem ?

Hi and welcome.

All I could initially suggest is you do the 'paperclip test' which is a neat way of seeing what's stored in the car's memory, where all fault codes are logged.

You should be able to find this in the how-to section, perhaps start at the oldest and work forward, as it's a fairly common test to do.

It's not a problem I've every heard on on an omega, so happy hunting!

The dash is just a sort of 'push fit' connection at the back - I've read of dashboards where the connecting prongs get bent and no longer make good contact with age..

Try shoving on the instrument panel (roughly in the middle, IIRC) - not too hard! - and see if the lights change.. if they do then pop the dash off and clean the connector up, tease the prongs out a little and re-seat.

That won't be of any use for a problem like this!!
Try reseating dashboard as aaronjb suggests.  Failing that it could be a dodgy earth somewhere.
