Title: Windscreen washer pump
Post by: Bixy1 on 27 October 2010, 17:14:04

Great. . . .mot tommorrow and its failed already. Is there a short cut or do you still have to remove the front bumper to get to the pump...  :'(  :'(

The bumper only needs to come off if you want the bottle off. If prefacelift car you need to remove the grille, facelift cars you don't, look down behind the bumper & the washer pump is there. Lever the pump out of the side of the bottle & lift it away, as simple as that.
You say it's failed. Does it not spin at all or is it spinning but the washer water not reaching the screen? If the latter it could just sh1te in the grommet/filter that you've just pulled the pump from. Wash the slime from it & replace. If the pump doesn't spin, try it directly across a battery, it doesn't matter which way you connect it for a test. A new pattern pump isn't too expensive.  :y

Thanks for that.  :y Pump spins but water only reaches the screen if you flick the switch on and off, otherwise its just a pathetic dribble.  :(    Good to know the front of the car doesn't have to come off . . .  :)

It's likely to be the filter that the pumps its in is full of crap & needs a wash.  :y :y

Okay. If its fine tommorrow I'll have a go.
Odd really, the wife's Astra has exactly the same problem. . .  :o
Perhaps too much screen-wash is bad for them?  :-?
