Title: Manual mode
Post by: fed up on 26 October 2010, 22:44:50
Hi all, I'm a frustrated owner of a 2.2 auto 2001. I've fitted a new exhaust and everything  was fine. Until I got the dredded spanner light the other morning. If I let the engine warm upto hot through idling turn it off and restart the spanner light goes off and I then get the managment light instead.

If I unclip the first O2 senser, restart the car it tells me through the traffic master it's in manual mode and I can drive it with the managment light on. I know I've goto getvthe codes read, I plan to buy a reader from Argos, does anyone have any thoughts???

Hi & welcome.
Add your location to your profile, there may be a member near you. Try and get codes read by someone with  Tech2 reader, could save you ££££'s

As a newbie you may not be familiar with the paperclip test. Look this up on this forum, it may prove invaluable.  :)

The 2.2 petrol and diesel can't be paperclipped or pedal tricked, they need a reader ;)

I thought the Trafficmaster only gave warning of road conditions, alternative routes etc? :-? I've never heard of it verbally diagnosing car faults! :-/

It doesn't. :y

The codes need reading, as has been stated.

I think there have been mixed experiences with the code readers sold by Argos when used on the Omega. There have been threads on this forum where people have taken them back after trying to use them (top marks to Argos for giving a refund though).

The reader (& code resetting tool?) that seems to get universal praise is the Maxscan GS500 for about £80.

The MID will simply display that there is a gearbox related fault. It won't say what the fault is.

Traffic Master only reports traffic, but if you have a failing car battery, can pipe up if you start the car twice in quick-ish sucession.
