Think mine needs replacing as the temp gauge seems to take forever to raise to the norm running temp. Drove for about approx 2 miles last night to work before it even started to show a reading. It didnt get up to norm running temp untill about 4 miles and by the time I reached the hell hole ( about 12miles ) it was up behaveing itself in some sort of fashion. Left her running while I had a smoke in the car park and the fan cut in and did its job to bring the temp down.
This trip was without any heating on ( us midlanders are hard ;D ) but the return journey home this morning I waited till she got up to temp before I put the heater on ( eco setting as I a thight barmaid) and that seemed to reduce the reading on the gauge a fraction and when I arrived home I left her running and temp did raise up to just before fans would kick in before I switched the engine off.
I have also noticed on colder days with the heating on from the start of my journey the temp gauge will have no reading at all for the whole journey hence why I think the stat is at fault.
I will be changeing the coolant in the system as it appears to me to look weak and for a peice of mind aswell I want to be raedy for winter. So do ou think its a stat problem or am I looking for problems that arent there :-? :-[

When my stat was stuck open, the temp would sit at 75 on a run.

Easy way to check for a stuck open stat ... start engine from cold and stand with a hand on the top water pipe .. the one from the stat to the radiator ....
IF the pipe very slowly warms up .. the stat is failed open.... what SHOULD happen is the pipe stays cold until the stat opens when you get a sudden "surge" of heat.
This check is faster to do if the heating is in the OFF position .... :)
HTH :)
