I have a 98 estate and one of the folding rear seats the passenger side the lock which holds it in the upright position is broke this stops the middle seat belt working and hence is an MOT failure anyone ever fixed one of these it seems that when you push the button down to release the seat it pushes 3 cables which release locks on the bottom of the seat, help please

My Astra estate was the same. If you dropped the seats without putting extra slack in the belt & tieing (sp?) it off, the belt wouldn't relaes. I used to have to slacken the anchor point under the seat to release it. It would then work OK till the seat was next folded. I did try to dismantle it all, but unfortunately didn't get anywhere with it. :(

It takes a bit of patience and a handful of skinned knuckles >:(, but you can get limited access to where the cable connects to the belt reel in the top of the seat.
You need to lift out the centre head rest and carefully remove the arm rest and the plastic panel behind it. Tip the seat forward and carefully prise the edge of the seat cover from the back rest. You'll then be able to peel the seat cover/foam to one side to get at the belt reel. The cable runs up to it on the side nearest to the armrest. A bit of time moving the end of the cable will give you an idea of how it all works. :-/
I had the exact same problem with mine, the tester gave me an hour to get it sorted, so apologies for being a bit hazy on what actually solved the issue. I basically pulled the seat to bits, jiggled the cable, checked that it worked, the threw it all back together, rechecked it the straight back in to the tester. ::)
