i have a 2.5 v6 r reg miggy and have just developed a slight problem.i have recently done the cam cover gaskets and fuel filter which both needed doing.Now i have developed a miss fire.this occurs on the 3000rpm mark in all the gears.it idles perfectly and drives as it should.i also changed the plugs as i was doing the cam covers.i drove 400 miles onfri(today is mon) and the miss fire has developed over the weekend.i have looked on this forum and im hoping its not the coil pack.has anyone got any ideas.please help. :-[

Have you tried a paperclip test to see if there are any codes?
If not, I would suggest that it's an ignition problem, so plugs, leads and coil pack would be the suspects. If they have been bathed in oil following a cam cover gasket failure, that adds weight to the diagnosis, IMHO.

i did the paper clip test came up with code 19.the plugs were full to the brim with oil.i got new leads but saw how much of a job it was to change them so kinda gave it a miss.the car runs perfect except when it gets up around 3/4000 revs.it did it before i cahnged fuel filter then stopped.i have checked filter and its ok.

If you have new leads and the old ones were sitting in oil I would put them on. However, code 19 means you have a problem with the crank sensor, so I would replace that before it fails completely. :y

i thought it was that so i already rang vx and got a price for one.just dont fancy fitting it.and as for the leads thats another fearful job on the horizon :-/

It will behave itself now until a really inconvenient moment ::)

There are 2 options...
Option 1 is the usual suspect of crank sensor as you have a code 19...this in itself can indeed cause the misfire
Option 2 which I had with my current car is that the code 19 is in fact a red herring. Fixing the misfire, caused by oil from leaking cam covers or possibly also rain leaking through the scuttle onto the dispack may in fact cause the code 19 to go away although this is quite possibly only likely on a serious misfire.
Personally I would look at option 1 but worth sorting the dispack and leads if you have them and most importantly clean out the breather system and sort the cam covers...

cam covers done twice in last 3 month but done properly 2nd time round.ive got the leads but dont fancy another day ripping bits out.tho i know i will have to.is the crank sensor a big job ive not looked at it yet.
