Title: SAI - unplug or remove fuse?
Post by: philnohair on 04 November 2010, 12:17:59
My secondary air injector pump bearings are very noisy and at Oxford meet No. 4 The Boy told me the pump is not needed and I could unplug it, gaining access by removing the bumper. I looked at the bumper and it wasn't obvious to me how to remove it, so I did a search on the forum and found someone recommending removing the big red 50A fuse from the engine bay fuse box instead.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to either method?

The Owners manual identifies where the engine fuse box is but doesn't specify what each fuse does - is the 50A fuse just for the SAI?

Any views most welcome, thanks.

Phil.

As Rob says, just pull the fuse - this is the simplest and quickest solution. To remove the SAI itself would be time consuming.

Thanks. Is it definitely 29a? I have an orange 40A there and the 29b is a red 50A - I've found a post by Entwood saying he thinks it's 29b and a post by bigdods describing it as 'the big red one'

Bumper comes off nice and easy ;)

Prefacelifts are easieer to unplig, just remove the panel next to foglight

Pull one fuse and start the car. If the SAI doesn't come on you've got the right fuse.

Fuses are designed to blow so if you pull the wrong one out it won't do any harm.

If you unplug the pump you have a connector floating around. If you remove the pump you need to block off the pipe.

The SAI fuse is only for the SAI nothing else will lose power.

he found info on the site stating different fuses... he was asking to confirm the correct fuse... making your comment pointless... a little sarcastic... misinformed... and maybe even a little childish...

Just my opinion nowt else...
