Title: mixed probs
Post by: goldwinger59 on 06 November 2010, 21:11:37
love my 5th omega, will post pics when i figure how to,
two probs i`m sure ive seen reference to but have looked thru forums etc.
1, intermittent beeps after a drive, no lights on, no indicators etc, 3-4 beeps then quits, ???
2, alarm comes on like this morning, 4 times in an hour, bit damp with condensation running off the bodywork, key fob clicked twice after using her.
3, bonnet catch not realising the hook, can hear the mechanism bumping but not releasing, just a case of cable stretch ? last time the bonnet was up was about a month ago.
any help very much appreciated.

1 and 2 power sounder related, remove and either re solder in some new batteries or replace.

Bonet catch guide will cover number 3.  :y

1 & 2 are linked ....

The 4 beeps after switching off is the warning that the Powersounder batteries are low (they are supposed to self charge from the main battery)

The alarm going off intermittently is the power sounder dragging the thing down.

There are many threads on this ....  solutions are one of 3 :

1 - Remove powersounder and leave disconected

2 - Remove powersounder and replace with a new one - around £60

3 - Remove powersounder, cut open, replace batteries - around £10 plus a lot of work.

Whatever you choose - long term - it is proabably best to remove the powersounder whilst you decide. It is not unknown for the failing internal batteries to "short" inside the unit and catch fire ... this leads to serious damage to the car .. :(  It doesn't happen everytime .. but has happened sufficiently for me to bring it to your attention.

Peeps from the powersounder after you switch off are a warning that the batteries are dying. Random alarm activation are either powersounder batteries dying or a faulty bonnet switch.

Leaking powersounder batteries have history. In extreme cases the leaking acid has caused an electrical fire in the powersounder that has spread and destroyed the whole car. :o

If I were you I would remove it tomorrow. Bonnet up (sorry), wiper arms off, skuttle panel off (don't forget all the plastic fixings hidden under the screen seal) and the power sounder is the plastic siren on the drivers side.
