Title: Diference between Z22XE and X20XEV engine
Post by: speedy_ns on 09 November 2010, 16:20:25
Can anyone tell me main differences between this two engines. I connected my omega to the "My Naff Code Reader", and it shows that my engine type is z22xe. So i am in dilema, is it posible that cpu was changed, or something else??? This engines are wery similar so it is posible that it is just registrated ass 2.0 because taxes cost much less.. . .

Seems like it's a 2.2 then, if I remember correctly, doesn't it say so on top of the Eco Strip on the engine?

Have a look at the engine number stamping, right hand side of the engine (as you stand in front of the car looking at the engine) near to the gearbox joint. It will have the engine code stamped with the engine number :y

I think it doesn't, but I am not sure. Ass far as I could see, they are practicly identical. Unfortunately, there is no much omegas here in serbia, so i couldn't compare my car to someone elses car.

engine number stamp is x20xev........, but this is serbia, so it is posible that someone retyped that, I will take some pictures tomorow. I am sure that this car left the factory ass 2.2, so i just want to find out was the fatory engine been replaced or did someone ''play'' with papers. . .  :-?

If it hasn`t got a throttle cable it`s not an X20XEV.......unless somebody has done a lot of modifications
Look behind the black "ECOTEC" strip, if you can see plug leads it`s a X20XEV

I think that the (empty) block is the same on both, so someone may have started with an X20XEV and put a 2.2 head and ECU and whatever else on it (hopefully having also changed the bits that increase the stroke; rods/crank/pistons, not sure how many of those). Maybe.
