hi all,ive replaced the drop links, wishbone inner and outer track rod ends and the idler arm and had tracking and camber set up in the last week all this was done to sort a wobble in the wheel, the bobble is side to side when car is jacked up with either one side or the other or both, the wobble is still there i cannot see where it is coming from!all done up correctly and parts exept wishbones are gm.so anyone got a clue as to what the hell it is and how to fix it?!
-
sounds like wheel bearing is fubared if its side to side movement
-
wouldnt that make a noise when driving?play is in both sides.

Given the age, play in both sides is expect. It was mentioned at my last MOT ::)
If they are totally knackered they can make some noise, mine are just worn, and with car on stands if your in front of the wheel and push it side to side there is small amount of movement. But no noise...
When you say wheel wobble is this what you noticed or wobble through the steering wheel?
-
have you checked the steering box?
-
ive not checked the steering box,not sure how too!there is no noise when i wobble it but when moving from forward to reverse there is a clunk, same under braking but not as bad or all the time.the wheel also moves with the steering rack so i dont think its the bearing.how do i check and fix the steering box?
-
To check the wheel bearings jack the car up and feel for play by holding the wheel at 12 a 6 and feel for play, you can also get someone to put there foot on the brake and if any play dissapears its the wheel bearing ;)
-
I reckon the clunk is the calipers!!! specifically the sliders wear here causes a clunk as the caliper body moves when the disc goes back and forwrd can also cause a clunk when driving as the caliper moves up and down n the pins,
try it?

Are you my way over the weekend? I've got this breaker here you can salvage stuff off temporarily to get you out of the do-do.
Could be steering box, steering idler, wheel bearing, the list could go on!
-
could be a bent rim? hit any curbs lately! is it wobble or play you're looking for?
-
no not hit any curbes!thanks lee, will have a gander over the weekend.might try and come over on tues to pick those bits up too, funeral is on tues so am down that way.will let you know!

When the car is lifted off it's wheels some of the suspension and steering components can appear 'loose' once they are loaded with weight the 'play' may disappear...

So a wobble/bobble in the road wheel? Is it visible by spinning the wheel by hand when jacked up? Like a buckled wheel?
Or are we talking about play, if you rock the road wheel in a certain way is there play/knocking?
Or are we talking about a wobble at the steering wheel?
More questions than answers ATM. :-/ but given the parts replaced I would hope we are talking about play in the road wheel, or a wobble at the steering wheel? What wishbones fitted?
-
ok the wobble is on the road wheel, when holding it at 3 and 9oclock positions.there is alot of play alomost an inch.same with brake pedal pressed.wishbone were bought off the oof,i think ebay speacials,i cant see any play from that when moving the road wheel.
-
Ok, so either wishbone bushes, wishbone knuckle,, steering rods,or top shock mount play possibly..
Wishbone play is more for and aft, steering play pivots more around the steering axis.
If no play at 12 and 6 o'clock, top and bottom then baring should be fine.
Can you Jack both sides onto stands and move the steering from underneath, should be able to pin point it that way hopefully?
