Can someone help me please? I have got a pair of the above item for my 1995 saloon back end. The problem I am having is which way the tube at the bottom of the shock absorber goes, does the long way go towards the hub or does the short end go towards the hub? The instructions that came with them are of no help. I hope the question makes sense?

I f I've read the question correctly, are you saying that there is a bush on the lower mount. IIRC its about 1" long and seems to stick out on one side only, (and not equally on both sides).
This is as it should be. The bush keeps the base of the shock absorber away from the lower arm to give clearance for suspension movement.
If fitted correctly, parts should be in this order to look at:
1. Bolt.
2. Large washer.
3. Shock absorber.
4. Spacer bush. (actually part of shock absorber).
5. Lower arm.
The lower mountings are the same for both estates and saloons, so a quick look under the back of either car should clarify how it all goes together.

Here is a picture, hope this makes sense. The longer end which is about 1 1/2" goes to the hub side then. The short side of the tube is about 1". There are no rubber bushes to go on the tube and none in the pack, only the two for the top of the suspension. As I have put in the picture.

That is what I was getting at. The tube is the bush. You might find when you change the shocks over , that the old ones stick to the lower arm. The will come off but might need some none too gentle persuasion.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct me if I've got it backwards. (only done estate ones).

Neither was I any good, luckily it was just a line drawing needed. LOL

The lower part of the old shocker came away easy, it was the top that was a pain (the nut was that tight on that the thread snapped instead of the nut coming undone. They looked like they had been on for quite a few years (maybe the original ones?)

IIRC both top mounts on mine sheared as I undid them ::)
Another job crossed off from the never ending list... :y
