Hello all,
Finally trying to get my 2.5td elite sorted for mot and its decided to start playing up.
Basically it now has new diesel filter, glow plugs and inlet manifold gaskets.
After taking forever to get it going from where it was stored and cutting out on me and not starting again on the way home i investigated the lift pump to find that wasnt working.
took it out and home and found the terminals were so coked up power wasnt making it to the pump. Cleaned it all up, checked and refitted, car started in under a minuite! Result!
Even cleaned up the ic and fan at the weekend and checked it was all ok.
go out this morning though, gave it 2 glows, hear the lift pump working, go to crank it and it doesnt want to know! Threatens to start but wont catch.
I was going to service the injectors this week as they clack a bit when warm, but i cant see them causing this fault after its been find on the past few occasions.
Any ideas? :)

Have you tried paperclipping it for codes?

Ah, no, good shout. I will try and find the instructions on doing it as im having to net on my phone at the mo! Cheers

Grrr! I reconnected the battery to do the codes and it started! Anyway, got 12 and 64, fuel out of range whatever that means? Also the rev counter and speedo have decided to stop working?! Rev counter dead, speedo flickering slightly on 0...

Code 12 is start of codes to be read..
I got code 64 on mine when I read them last week...
I was expecting a code 19 (crank shaft sensor)...
The rev counter not working indicates crank sensor to me... Does it appear to idle at a higher speed (around 2000 rpm)???
Sounds really stupid, but see if your starter motor is loose, that stopped mine starting last year, due to corrupting the signal from the Crank sensor...
Speedo not working could be ABS ECU...

Well the rev counter and speedo started working. But the lift pump gave up all together leaving me stranded last night! Just about had enough to be honest!

Fill your fuel tank to the brim and don't let it go below 1/4(25l) as the main pump will lift diesel from the tank when full.
And for code 64 buy a new fuel filter and fill it with Forte diesel treatment the restart the engine .Do this a couple off times :y

Ok, problem is, Im a bit of a poor-ite and not so good with fuel management! Ive read on a few places about fitting a facet pump so thought I would start a new thread asking who has done it :y

Try disconnecting your Crank Sensor first (TD's will start with it disconnected) It sounds very familiar to problems I had last year... I believed it to be the pump, no fuel at injectors on cranking when I had starting difficulties...
For the sake of 2 minutes, it could save you a lot of messing about in the diesel tank...
Sensor is located about 3 inches below the Starter Motor...
