I've just discovered that I've lost all fluid from my pas pump reservoir - pas was noisy and felt heavier than usual which led me to check. I haven't had a chance to investigate further yet, so don't know yet whether its a hose or pump problem, but would be grateful for the answers to a few questions.
Firstly, am I right that the pas pump on a 1998 V6 should be topped up with Dexron 2, and does it matter whose brand (eg Total) is used?
Secondly, is there an easy to recognise drain plug on the pump as I may as well replace the lot if its just a leaking hose.
Thirdly, are there any links on the site on how to change the pas pump (I can't find any so far), and if stage one in my Haynes manual is correct does the air con refridgerant need to be discharged and is there a diy way to do this?
Thanks for any advice given.

... and you can leave the air/con alone, it doesn't need de-pressurising. :y :y

Thanks Geoff, don't know how I missed that link - I looked in the maintenance section! It leads to one further question though, what are the droop snoops?
Seems like there's no drain plug as such on the pump then.
Thanks to you too Andy, glad the air con can be left alone.
I'll have a look tomorrow and try and find where the problems lies .... which will probably lead to more questions!

are the droop snoops not the vertical pipes with the front multi-ram in, at the front of the engine that go to the plenum?

Had a chance to look at the beastie today.
My initial delight at finding no sign of any leak from the pump turned to dismay when I discovered a fluid leak at the base of the steering column - the fluid had run all down the drop arm and all round the ball joints of the nice new centre and outer tie rods that I'd only fitted in August (no sign of any leak then!).
Will shortly be starting a new thread asking for advice regarding this. Poo.....
