good evening all...hope this is a simple one..this morning i noticed that when i was in park,,its an auto,,and pressed the brake pedal before i selected drive, there was a clicking coming from around the handbrake area..sort of press,,click then release pedal,,then the clicks again...did not do it in any other gear or neutral,,just park!!...sorry for being long winded,,but is this normal given the cold snap,,or is there something about to give up!!..thanks for all replies,,,kev :y

ooops,,meant from around gear lever area :-[

It's the solonoid that locks it in park. Put the handbrake on, keep your feet off the brakes and try taking it out of park ;)

It's working as it should. You're hearing the solenoid that releases the selector when you have your foot on the brake. Try moving the selector without your foot on the brake. :y
must type faster .... ;D

and if you read your manual ........ ::) you'll see it says that if you wanted to move your car with a dead battery or you have problems with the solenoid/brake pedal switch, then you lift the gaiter from the gear lever you'll see a yellow lever. Lift this & you can then move the lever. :y :y

read your manual
;D
R.T.F.M should be a help guide all of its' own... ::)
No offence intended to anyone. I'm probably the last person to read mine..., besides, if teh glove box was a bit bigger there might actually be room for the handbook in it...
