Title: Couple of queries
Post by: D7 on 17 November 2010, 21:52:04
Car is a 2000 (X) 2.5 V6 CDX Auto.

Firstly, i've noticed that if I run the car to work and back, then start it up immediately after i've parked up, it idles at ~700rpm (normal i'd say) - however if the engine is COLD its idling at around 1100rpm! And doesn't drop...Anything of concern or is it just a dodgy sensor somewhere? This has just appeared the past day or so, was fine before.

Secondly i've got a strange "grumbling" (best way I can describe it) noise coming from the N/S/R on acceleration. It doesn't seem apparent all the time and is most noticeable under hard acceleration up to 30-40ish. Its only come on the past day or so (again; def wasn't there when I bought the car) - I may be over reacting when I suspect it might be the diff, although i'm hoping its something as simple as a loose exhaust bracket! Any opinions? Like I said I can't really hear it when accelerating past 40 (but it could be just engine noise masking the sound) or indeed say doing a 50-70 sprint, but its very apparent upto 40 (indeed I can hear it over the radio!)

Cheers,

John

First point I would say that the high idle is normal until fully warm but it should drop as it warms.
second point check your exhaust for security as it sounds like the mounting rubbers have either broken or streched.

Will have a look at the exhaust Iain, it seems to be a lot worse today unfortunately  :(
