Title: Fuel Pump gone???
Post by: Kumamoto on 22 November 2010, 14:56:47
My miggy has had cold start problem for the best part of this year... i have taken it to An Opel Dealer garage here and a  Bosck Specialist with  TECH  II equipment and they came up with nothing. They both suggested i change the Injectors...which i did with used ones but it did not make a difference..cold start problem still persists. IT is not bad car always starts at third or fourth turning of key...then runs beautifully until after about 8 hours of not running(normally overnight).
I changed loads of parts till i got tired(crank sensor,MAF, coil pack, camshaft sensor,plugs...etc...etc ALL Genuine Vauxhall).

But none of them ever tested the fuel presssure. I took the car to a garage last week... he removed and tested the IN -TANK fuel pump...it works but there is no pressure. Fuel flows but with very little presssure. He reckons that is why i have been have been having the cold start issue. Is it Likely????

What is the best fuel pump i can buy (Vauxhall or Bosch)?

Hiya one possible cause of poor starting can be a faulty battery.
Is your alternator charging?
Is the battery losing charge ,due to dead cells?
Assuming the engine runs normallyand your only problem is cold starting, check out your charging .

Hi,
I'm surprised that your mechanic actually removed the pump to test it.
They don't actually have to pump a great volume of fuel, they are rated at about 100L per hour, but they do have to get up to some pressure. It should be 3 Bar at least(40 PSI)
I would put a pressure gauge in the delivery fuel line to the engine and see what pressure you get first before replacing the pump.

I don't know what aftermarket sales are available in Kenya, so I expect you will have to go Opel or Bosch. They will be the same unit most likely.

would be suprised if it's afuel pump problem does the car rev like it's on choke when it starts ie; above 750 sounds like the auto choke isn't working but that is where i would start looking, saying that with a half charged battery you won't get far with an omega, next time it's cold (motor) put some booster cables on it and see if it starts right up then you will know if that's the cause i had a bad battery and even with cables it took a while to fire new battery first take!!
