Title: Engine temp shoots up when heater on?

Hi ,

My brother has a 2.5v6 auto omega and has a problem. Noticed that this morning when he puts the heater on the engine temp shoots up. Doesn't think he heard the fan working but could be mistaken. What do you think it is?

How high is it going? And what age is the car?

The car is an x reg , done just over 100k i think and its going up to the red I believe.

How quickly does it reach that?  Does he get hot air in cabin?


Thinking along lines of blocked heater matrix, stopping coolant flow...

Hi ,

Doesn't get hot air in cabin, reaches temp quickly. He said it worked fine up until yesterday. He also said he doesn't think there is any anti freeze?

It will be frozen then! Pray to **** (insert whichever deity you prefer) that it hasn't stripped the impellar off the waterpump! You need to get it warm (NOT BY RUNNING IT!) and drain, flush and refill the system with the correct anti-freeze mixture.
