Title: Has My Headgasket gone ???????
Post by: StevieP on 01 December 2010, 20:52:16
Hi All,
I have a 2001 Omega 2.6 V6 with low mileage of 50K.
It has been using alot of oil lately and has been smoking more than usual (I am told this may be the stem seals which i plan to get done in new year).

However I have another potential problem, On checking my oil levels yesterday which i do every two weeks, I have noticed thick yellow sludge on the inside of the Oil cap and in the pipe you tip the oil in ????
No other symptoms such as losing water etc and coolant levels and temps remain fine.

Is this a sign the Headgasket has gone or could it be somthing else ????

Your views are most welcome :)

Nah, the V6 has a long oil filler neck which does not get cleaned with oil flicked by the cams like most engines.

Its high to so any condensation from the blow by gases gathers here, mixes with the oil mist and produces mayo.

No issue at all and would go after a good long run.

Additionally, some oils seem more prone to this than others....

Castrol Magnatec does seem to be particularly prone from the cars I've seen...
