There is a loud crunching noise coming from the shocks when I drive over speed bumps. It has started during this cold spell.
Is this normal or are they on their way out????????????
cheers

Crunching or more like continuous knocking
-
check that the plastic guard hasnt come loose and catching when you go over bumps.
either that or maybe something stuck between the springs?
-
When the wheels hit the bump it crunches as the wheel is forched up. As the wheel drops down on the other side, it crunches again. can't hear it during normal driving.
The noise comes from both front wheels.
I had a crunching noise like this b4, coming from the n/s. Was the steering idler.
£380 for full set of struts/springs & bolts etc from gm (with discount)
cheers for replies :y

well thats my diagnosis thrown out, as I thought you meant the rear shocks. (didnt say which ones)

good point!!!!!!!! had the rear springs done last week, amazing difference

I had EXACTLY the same thing from the front...NOT shocks but wishbones. They were flubbered. Changed the wishbones, problem went away.
-
Done the wishbones, droplinks in the summer :)
-
Get someone to bounce the front end up and down while you get as close as you can to try and determine where the crunch is coming from.
-
my old cdx saloon did the same, only in frosty weather though. never bothered me tbh. ;)
-
bounced the car, seems to be the shocks where the noise is coming from.
-
There are plastic gaiters on the shocks, they cover the shaft to prevent ingress of dirt and water from corroding it, they are probably all split

ok thanks, will get the car in the air & take the wheel off for a good look around.
Well if it stops snowing!!!!!!!!! >:(
