Title: Power steering.
Post by: Amigo on 02 December 2010, 22:59:23
Are the pumps weak on Omegas? Every time i've been a bit playfull, anything that involves a little lock to lock drifting etc the power steering pump's given up the ghost. I only ever do this off road & it's happened to my green 2.5 CD & to the Beastie. Now it's happened again since stuck in the snow?
Have i just been unfortunate replacing a knackered pump with a nearly knackered one? Should i buy a new one are they all that weak? This is two cars now that can't handle a bit of lock to lock. WHY??? :(

They are prone to wear, which shows up as lack of assistance at idle, but assistance returning with revs.

Giving how it works, did the ABS unit get confused with what the wheels were doing, and light up?

Are we sure it's not the servo tronic playing up?  Given the pump is most likely to show a problem at low revs? Going by what I've read on here anyway....?
