Anyone out there with knowledge of 2.0i facelift autos?
Car has gone into limp mode & Tech2 has come up showing autobox sensor!
Car drives ok then goes into limp mode. When the ignition is turned off then on again autobox is fine then after a few miles goes into limp mode!
Is it a big job to change the sensor, how long does it take & anyone know cost of sensor?
All help much appreciated!
Andy

sensor(s) not difficult to change - I think it'll mean the input speed sensor or the output speed sensor.
-
Thanks 2woody. I've found a used output speed sensor at omegaspareparts for £25 + postage so hopefully its not an expensive job :-/

What was the fault code on the gearbox - its internal sensors are uber reliable. The selector switch is weakest point electronically. The hydraulic/mechanical side is most fragile though.

Can i do a paper clip test as i don't have a tech2 & all i was told was its the autotransmission sensor that was showing?
-
Yes paperclip it and post the results, but I don't imagine you will get any gearbox errors.

paper clipping it wouldn't give you any gearbox errors even if they were there. Paperclip only gives engine codes on an Omega (more on a Senator ::)) ::)

Captain Zok has a reader as do I, but mine is only very basic.

Thanks Andy
I'm sure the mechanic down the road has a Tech2 reader.
When it was originally done on tuesday the guy said it was the autobox sensor or maybe he said 'selector'!! :-/
I feel a right numpty now for not asking him to write down the fault code reading >:(
If it is the selector, there's one i've found for £90 delivered but is it an easy fit or 1/2 a days work??!! :o

Must take up their very kind offer ....... NOT!! ;D
Someone lent me the haynes manual for migs & i've just had a quick butchers at my 'little' problem - no bloody wonder mechanics charge so much cos its frightened the bloody life out of me & my pockets are empty due to early buying of xmas pressies so looks like i'll be an Italian for the next few weeks ..... CarLoss!! :'( :'( :'(

It is a DIY job so you don't have to be Italian. ;D
Before you do anything, I suggest you get the error codes confirmed first.
Don't want you doing anything that is not necessary or totally wrong.
If the lights at the side of the gear selector lever are playing up i.e. going on and off randomly it would add weight to the dirty switch diagnosis.

YES! All of a sudden all the lights from P-1 light up like a bloody christmas tree & automatic gearbox comes up on the display screen! So is this pointing towards a dirty switch problem? :-?

this is the exact fault i had on monday, took me two hours to strip, clean and re-install, just get the passenger side up as high as possible, tools needed - 17mm spanner, 10mm deep socket on 1/4" drive, 10mm spanner and a t15/20 torx bit. oh and some plasters for when you catch your wrist on the exhaust. It is fiddily to remove especially the plug but all managable even for an ammetuer.
Not a hard job just take your time, when you open the selector switch up mine looked like it had been to mac d's for a banana milkshake, i just cleaned it up with a rag, just be careful on little 'fingers' in white moving arm.
Good luck

Cheers for that Trem. As a matter of interest what code came up for this?
As i'm completely useless when it comes to DIY jobs on cars (takes me 1/2hr just to change a light bulb!) i'll get a qualified motor doctor to do it - saves me the expense of plasters! :D :D

If you end up needing a replacement selector switch I`ve got one here £25 posted :y
-
i didn't have any codes as i only have the gls model with the tid display but did have the gearbox warning light on there, the lights next to the gear stick all went on, i could manually select 1st 3rd and reverse, but in auto it would stay in 3rd and i was unable to select sport or snow modes. Its not hard to do at all, very easy i would say, if you can change your air filter you can do this job.

Cheers Trem it sounds exactly the same as my faults :y

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way ......
Oh what fun it is to have the gearbox working for me!! :D :D :D
Everything working as it should be & i want to give a special thanks to 'trem' & 'Kneepad' :-* :-* (in a purely manly way!!)
It wasn't a quick job to do especially under the car on a board in freezing fog BUT hey the autobox selector switch is now clean & working as it should do (fingers crossed as i've only driven it a mile or so but seems fine!) :) :)
This site is worth its weight in gold and i can't thank you enough!!
Cheers

Well done that man. You're brave to tackle it in this weather, but worth it for the result.
