I have to go away for my job normally only a couple of weeks at a time but when I come back and start my car (2.5 V6 Auto) things rattle for about a minute after that it's the normal very quite idle.
I assume this is because there is no oil at the top of the engine and the lifters are empty.
Why does this happen is there not a oneway valve which stop the oil draining from the head?
How do I stop it happening, what is the best way to start after not running for a couple of weeks.
Thanks

you can't really stop this happening, when you switch off the engine some of the valves will obviously be fully open and the valve spring pressure over time will compress the lifters slightly hence the rattle on start up until the lifters jack up again

asuming you have a good quality oil you can't do anything about it :(
