Nasty screech developed from engine area.
Worse when cold start, or after idle, sometimes at random. Just about goes when warmed up.
I suspect the usual water pump/alternator. Does the accessory belt have a tensioner that would screech when on it's way out?
Any other suspects? I'd like to be armed when taking it to garage. ;D

tensioner has a finite movement when tensioning, also it weras its bushes so has less movement, its well known fault that the actual arm seizes on it bearing, so best way to sort it is to
A, remove large cap on end of tensioner pivot and make sure it moves freely if not oil and greas it
Bwhilst there insert new belt , when they have stretched they screech on switch off
C check play n spring loaded tensioner metal bushes if worn either make new bushes r replace tensioner :y

Remember Radiomarko's is a TD, not a V6, and has a very different crappy BMW tensioner that is even more prone to failures than the GM V6 ones :o

Aha... good advice, checked in service history and was replaced with aux belt in 2005...I'll get it done even if that isnt the screech.
update: In garage now. :-X

You guys were 100% correct, the aux belt tensioner was seized. Now sorted.
He was unable to undo the fuel filter housing to change the filter as it was seized, try again when weather warms up he suggested..... :(
