Title: FLAT BATTERY MAYBE MORE
Post by: bigpaul on 04 December 2010, 06:29:53
Hi All

I drive a 2.6 V6 on an X plate which i believe is one of the first face lift models built end of 2000 but with a 2001 spec

So heres my problem usually starts like a dream went out yesterday morning dead nothing after the first unlock couldnt even re-lock on remote alarm kept going off well sort of and really strange here the radio which is part of the built in bose system kept coming on

So I called in the AA got it started said the batterys fine ? but the radio had been on now strange as this may seem i never and i mean never have the radio on

After initial smirking he says he has it all charged up and to be careful with radio Grrr go back out to sign paperwork radio back on he cant explain it offers to take out fuse for radio only one he can find shuts down interior lights and all computer display thats not good puts it back in

So reiterates battery is fine but to keep an eye on Radio ? how do I do that I wonder so fully charged I go to bed

Up this morning Unlock on remote key in ignition and nothing after a few trys of turning the key quicker to display my mechanic skills still nothing and then if as by magic radio comes on again shut it off manually shut door and radio comes on again shut off manually yet again car wont lock alarm goes off radio comes on eventurely get car locked manually on key

I am seriously confused and am wondering if this is symptomatic of end of life battery or something more sinister

Please if anyone can help before i start shelling out serious money for diagnostics

thanks

First off, read through this guide to determine if your battery/charging system is working correctly :-

Duff battery/alternator can, but not always, show up wierd faults.

Follow the guide and report back.

Somebody else on here had the same problem with the radio turning itself on recently, can't remember who it was now.

Here you go have a look here  :y

Might be worth popping the OP a PM to see if he got to the bottom of the problem.

is there a way of isolating the radio ie fuse without isolating anything else the AA guy really didnt know.

which was why i was wondering if it was connected to the battery condition but he said it was ok that being said he didnt carry out the tests i have been advised to do

Hi

thanks for that it appears it may be battery connected have others experienced this

"If the battery is disconnected on my Miggy the radio does come-on (un-commanded) when the battery is re-connected......might your battery have a loose terminal or the voltage dropping below threshold (due to cold etc.)? "

Do you think the AA guy may have been mistaken and their is an actual battery fault

I feel so inadequate but im a total idiot with regard to mechanics and problem solving

I've recently acquired a facelift Omega with the Bose audio system, the car came with a totally discharged battery and when I changed the battery for a fully charged one the stereo came on automatically.
I'd try a new battery and take it from there...

...after first checking the alternator output at the battery terminals.

UPDATE

hey guys just to let you know it was a flat battery got it replaced now fires up like the beast she is wonderful sound

Thanks for all your advice seems the battery testing revealed the truth it and the AA guy wasnt as clued up as he thought.

So for future reference the radio coming on by itself is an indication that the battery is flat and on its way out so nothing too sinister

For f

Good to get a definitive solution on this one. I was always doubtful. No doubt now. Great result.     ;)
