Title: Booked in for alignment and camber
Post by: bellers on 06 December 2010, 13:37:31
I booked omega in for sat morning. they said between 34 and 45 + vat. The fela said the adjusters might be ceased up and could i check them and free them up if possible as they wont heat them.
Where are the adjuster bolts at the rear so i can check them?

On the rear track rods, in the middle.

The locking nuts usually undo, but adjustment of the actual rod is the bit that seizes.

Don't let them set it to just 'green', the Omega is sensitive to perfect adjustment...

Just done (partially) mine on one of my omega's, 1998 CDX. What a job!!!

I guess you are taking about the front steering tie rods and the read tie rods.

Fronts seized solid at first but got them off the car without much trouble and attacked them with penetrating oil. oil bath, heat from blow torch, big vice, bigger vice, spanners and three foot scafolding tube as an extension.

They finally gave up and are now repainted, well greased and back on car. I also replaced the adjuters locking bolts/nuts with stainless steel replacements.

The rears are more of a problem. I noticed that somone has  been here before but not since I have owned the car (10 years). Both adjusting bolts butchered.

Never mind. Same approach as before, off the car and apply heat and force. One finally gave in but the other is still off the car!!!!

I can't get it to move. Eventually broke (dramatic) a 4" vice with the force applied. I even welded on metal bars to get more purchase. Nothing moved. I am sulking now and have given up untill I get a bigger vice and a large pipe wrench.

Guess what my Xmas presents are going to be?

Can definetely say that I have never had such seized components on all the cars I have owned. Nightmare.

I have another Omega to do but that's on hold.

They should be able to remove and unseize them, as micheldever do.
