Title: Brakes came on, on their own

I had a problem today with my omega.
The brakes seemed to have come on on their own.
I was on a slight hill, and noticed the car was not rolling back.
I made sure the handbrake was off and let go of all pedals.

I then drove for 30 seconds and pressed the brake pedal. The brakes came on to stop the car, but never seemed to completley disengage.
The brake pedal seemed to be furtrher down than usual, meaning that when i broke i would only have to tap the pedal to make sure the car came to a complete stop.

(I changed all brake pads and discs around 3 months ago and everything was ok. The only thing i noticed was when i used the handbrake, the driver side rear wheels brake came on before the passengers rear brake).

Any ideas? or solutions/testing?

most likely the rear handbrake binding, check the return springs havent fallen off, and if needed lubricate the handbrake cable

you may need to service the handbrake shoes if you didnt already when you changed the pads.

Hi, I will check the handbrake again on the weekend.

Before then, someone at work has told me that I need to put copper grease on the pads and the two bolts that secure it in the calliper.
(I didn't do this before).

Do you think that this may cause the brake pads to be sticking?
I noticed today (when going past a shop window) that my brake light was on. I then used my foot to lift the brake pedal up which turned the light off. I will try to grease route, and also bleed the brake fluid and replenish it to see if it cures the problem.

certainly sounds like a brake binding problem, grease them all up and i wouldn't advise long trips as i had a mate who had the same problem and the heat from the brakes binding caused a change in the viscosity of the brake fluid and he ended up with no brakes at the slip ramp from the m4!

its common for the slides to stick, preventing the calipers returning, on all the cars this has happened to me on the pedal has always returned to the top, and no brake light on.

also the fact that your brake lamps were on when driving suggests that the pedal isn't returning correctly,might be worth checking that the pedal pivot is free
