Title: Bearing whine.
Post by: Ralph on 17 December 2010, 22:46:09
My Omega has developed a whine when started from cold since the cold weather began. It only happens when the temperature is well below freezing.
Once warm it is silent  again, it appears to be coming from the front of the engine, I think offside.
Any ideas what might need attention ?

I'd suggest auxillary/fan belt tensioner bearing, top left as you stand facing the front of the car. The roller is available on its own .... despite what some dealers may say.  :y
Try taking the weight off the belt by levering the tensioner to the right - 15mm socket/spanner - when it's squealing. Flipping the seal out, carefully and repacking with grease can give it a new lease of life.
