Service indicator? Please explain..... :y
-
think he means the spanner light? If so this is not a service light, it means there is a fault! (usually sensor related)

Need to fill in your profile with car details, helps us to give correct info.

the light is the car with the spanner through it .. a mate of mine put it on a snapon scanner and it come up with service interval.

Shame your mate doesn't know how to use it ;D
As others have said, let us know the engine, and also your location (people here may be able to assist with reading why it is on). If you are near me, I will happily read the engine codes for you, for free (assuming you can get near me - my car is stuck on the drive)
The Omega-B does not have a service interval warning.

yes the code was P1700. referencing a service indicator ..

P1700 Service Vehicle Soon Request from Transmission Control Module
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1220619696
Which means the transmission has said to the ECU "Some stuff happened and I'm none too happy about it, you should probably have the owner go and spend a ton of money at the dealer because I don't really know what it was, but it was bad"
You need to have it plugged into a real GM Tech2 to have the actual code read from the Transmission Control Module.

Pretty much what aaronb says - the TCM detected a fault, and in order to protect the gearbox, asked the engine ecu to go to reduced power.
A decent code reader on the TCM is what is required :y
