Title: That black thing in the middle of the dash top!!!!
Post by: micky on 24 December 2010, 19:25:01
Hi, can somebody tell me exactly what this is and does? Looks like some kind of sensor, what happens if it goes wrong and how do you change it? The car is a 1999 v6 Elite with climate. Ta!

actually, in the right light, it's more of a red than black  ;) to do with fans for each side of the car depending on which side of the car the sun is on.  :y

Senses sunlight  ;D  (Sorry, couldn't resist that. ;) )

On 'Auto' climate mode it adjusts interior temp according to which side has the sun. (Well, that's my take on it anyhoo.)

(Edit: Must learn to use more than two fingers for typing.  ::))

Not on prefacelifts ;)

It sense the strength of the sun, and the climate ecu uses this to calculate the heating/cooling reqd.

Facelifts have a more intelligent system , which as Andy B says, detects which way the sun is coming from, and the climate ecu uses this for each zone
