hi everyone AGAIN
right this water loose problem im having with my 2002 2.2sport
ive changed the thermostat/housing as was showing signs of leakage
ive bought a new hbv but not fitted it yet,BUT after looking at the old hbv i can not see any signs of leakage around it ,ie tell tale water marks around the connections etc
also i cant see any tell tale marks anywhere on the system :-(
surely in this weather (-10)any water leaks would show with steam etc?
any ideas? ive been told by many after watching my vid of the crap coming out of the exhaust on another question i had that no one seems to thinks its my hg gone just steam from the exhaust due to the cold weather
any ideas then where this water is going ???????????

Have you checked the drain tap on the rad -- I've assumed that you flushed the system,retrace steps as to what you did.HTH

Also check around the neck of the plastic expansion bottle, they are known to develop hairline cracks which will allow water to escape
in the form of steam. This might not be obvious to spot.

also check the engine left side bottom pipe were the return is from the heater rad is. need to get under to see it.

Many parts of the cooling system can have a small pinhole type leak which will only leak under pressure.
As mentioned - expansion tank cap, rad, hbv and hoses. Get the engine up to temperature and then inspect it carefully while its running, but be careful. I know from bitter experience just how painful burns from hot coolant can be.
I had a leak from the rad where the top hose goes in to it, the plastic cracks and the water trickles down the side and initially appears to be leaking from near the bottom of the rad. I know several others have had the same thing. Might be worth a look ?

You seem more willing to believe that your headgasket is starting to go than anything else, so here's another thing you could try.
Get a piece of flexible plastic hose somewhere near the diameter of an exhaust tailpipe, and a few feet long. Gaffer-tape it to said tailpipe, when everything is cold. Form the flexible hose into a U-shape, preferably with the bottom of the U in snow.
Start engine and run until the gaffer tape starts to get dodgily hot. Stop engine. Pour (any) condensed fluid out of the flexible hose into a clear empty jam jar. See if any such collected fluid resembles coolant colour-wise.
Just a mad Christmas eve-eve idea. ;D

back box this time of year is full of water this time of year, when exhaust cools down just suck's in the water from the air. plus you would see head gone in oil and water even on the spark plugs black and smelly. or rusting if left for night then taken out only thing good about cold and wet.

You really do not want it to be the hg, because unless your Omega is otherwise in excellent shape it could be cheaper to buy another one....... :( :(

why would it be better to buy a new one??? hg set is only about £100 +about £100 for cam set + about £40 for oil and antifreeze + a few hours of my time (and maybe a head skim)
surly the cars worth more than that?
only paid 600 euros (about £520) and only done 8200 miles ,body and interia in perfect nick so even after i spend money and my time doing the head gasket for a car only 8 yrs old surly its worth it

You didnt say that you can do the work yourself...
In the UK, a 'few hours' could easily cost £200 upwards depending where you take it. Plus the cost of bits at RETAIL price, not trade if you do it yourself.

My point exactly, sadly my bill was in excess of that, but I did get a garage to do it, and included the cam belt and tensioners, oil flush and change etc etc..
