Guys, this is REALLY killing me.
My headlight ! I had the Xenon HID, drivers side, stop working. Got new bulbs, they blink then go out.
Got a complete light from a kindly oofer including ballast pack PLUS an additional spare Ballast pack.
Swapped the headlight over, same bloody result. Both new bulbs blink then go out, really quickly. The original bulb in the "new" light, first time stayed on for about 20 seconds then that also blinked and stopped.
Tried the new head light, swapped ballasts over, swapped bulbs but...nothing.
Spoke to VX who said were the ballast packs discharged correctly.."Unplugged" sais I...including the original. They then said the ballast needs to be "re-charged".
I assume the car re-charges them...any ideas.
Tomorrow I was gonna remove the other light and swap somethings from the passenger side to see if it helps but its a lot of faffing around if theres something I haven't done correctly.
Personally I think the ballasts are ok because no matter which one I use the all the bulbs do the same thing. The dipped and full beam are fine, tis just the Xenon HID.
Any help would be greatly appreciated especially if I'm doing something basically wrong. It is as if the ballast packs, for whatever reason aren't maintaining the power to the bulb. This is driving me bonkers.

have you checked no issue with the wiring going to the headlight?
-
As much as a novice can do Jamie. They looked ok to me...I assume the one that goes into the headlight, the one with about 6 "bullet looking" connectors is the one in question. Perhaps I should check the plug a bit more closely. Is this "discharge/re-charge" comment from VX a load of rubbish.

Just a thought on the electrics theme, are all the 'bullet' pins in the connector at the same height and secure? One of mine got dislodged after I removed a lamp for cleaning and left me with no main beam until I found it.

No - that sounds like the servo. Dipped beam is just a pair of wires...

Thanks Jamie....Glad you told me that. I kinda narrowed it down to the 2 wired plug.
Just finished swapping the ballast packs around. Neither pack help the drivers side dipped but both are fine on the passengers side SO I assume I have a wiring problem. Is there a relay/fuse or anything else that controls the domed HID. (dipped)
Again, no matter what ballast pack or bulb is in there it just flashes briefly and remains off. VERY frustrating.
