Title: AR 35 auto gearbox stucked at P state when cold
Post by: Peter13 on 31 December 2010, 10:45:54
Hi!

I have read in several threads that it is usual to these gearboxes to stick in 1st gear for a while when it is cold.
Mine is different. It simply does not let me to release from P mode after some days of parking when it is really cold (below -5 degrees centigrade). If I try to release, I hear a relay switching from the dash, but I can not pull up the "trigger" on the rod. After about 1 minute it let me release it and everything goes normal.
The gearbox has had completely renewed in September. It has v5 software. Any ideas?

thanks!

Pop the leather gaitor up from around the gear selector and check the yellow lever is moving freely. A spot of lube may help :y

There's lock mechanism that prevents you from moving the gear selector from Park unless you have your foot on the brake, pressing the brake activates a solenoid to disengage the lock. Either ther brake switch is faulty (probably not in this case cos you can hear a relay switching) or the solenoid is faulty or can't move the lock.
The yellow lever that Welung is describing is the manual over ride for the solenoid/lock.   :y

Thanks for the responses guys!

So it really has not anything to do with the tempreture?
Anyway, I tried the break pedal, no success. Only the time to wait helps. I don't think I would start to fix it, cos normally I am unable to reproduce it, but at least I know where to search it when it gets worse...
Is that possible that the solenoid is freezed when it does this?

Thanks!
