Title: Hot Brakes/vibrating Steering
Post by: rappy on 31 December 2010, 16:15:58
Hi Guys, hopefully you can point me in the right direction.  We have an Omega 2.2 GLS saloon 2001, recently its started vibrating through the steering, thought it must be the tracking, so had it checked and the track end rods had gone, had these replaced along with four new tyres.
Driving it after the xmas break and its still doing the same.
Symptons are, from cold drives fine, after about 10mile steering starts severely vibrating and it appears that there is far more heat coming from the drivers side wheel than passenger.  Any advice greatyly appreciated, thanks in advance  :y

Is the vibration only when braking or all the time?

After the first 10mile or so, its all the time.

If it was only during braking it would be warped rotors, if its all the time I would check to see if u need to balance ur wheels. Otherwise I would be leaning to bearings

New tyres were put on a fortnight ago and were balanced along with the tracking being done.

I've also been told by OH that when the vibrations start its as if the brakes are on.....does this sound like the brake calliper is sticking once its warmed up?  Would that be an overhaull or replacement?

If one wheel is getting hot you need to find what is causing it to heat, friction obviously but from where is what needs to be figured out. It could be a stuck caliper causing the brakes to stick on slightly or a wheel bearing failing. Are you far away from me?

I'm further up in Staffordshire, got a friend that can look at it, as long as we've an idea what we're looking for if you get me.  Sounds like a case of just getting the wheel off and having a good old look around lol

Hi, just an udate for anyone with a similar problem.  Friend took a look and it was the calliper.  The piston was sticking, so its all lubed up and working fine again.  Thanks for all the advise. :y
