There are proper pullers to do the job, but I just bend it back to lift the wiper off the screen, then try to rock it backwards and forward (after I've unscrewed the 13mm nut of course!). It usually comes off easily

i don't have pullers but use a pair of vice grips not too tight starting on one side and then on the other until it finally gives up the fight!

You'd be better off using Plus Gas or something to release it. WD40 isn't the best.

But yes, lift the wiper off the screen so the side load from the spring is removed then wiggle the short stub of the arm before the hinge towards and away from the screen and it should work loose.

Failing that, get a puller, as suggested.

Yea know what you mean about the pullers, dont have one, the rocking bit is how I got the drivers side off, the ns having none of it, gonna give it a few more goes, other wise its cut a slot in the plastic cover or hacksaw a slot in the stalk and now it decided to piss down, just to cheer me up.

You're not missing out that much cos the pulers aren't that great. The arms need to be slim enough to get under the wiper which means that they bend easily. I have one but rarely use it, and just use the rocking techniques described.

If it is really stubborn, as one of mine was when I fitted the Insignia jets, then lots of plusgas and have a cuppa. If the wiggle doesn't release it, mine didn't, I used a centre punch on the centre of the stud. One sharpish tap from a fairly light hammer and it popped off :y

Or if your brave pour some warm (not boiling) water on the arm. Its ally so will expand faster than the steel mechanism. Dont get it on your windscreen tho or it might crack!

i find that not lifting the wiper arm but pushing down on the hinge part of it usually releases it  :y

Well thanks all for your tips, tried, Pro Gas, Diesel, crow bar, hot water, centre punch and lots of grunt, still wasn't having it. so in the end decided I needed a puller, couldn't get one anywhere today.

Found a large stainless steel saucepan laying around  in the kitchen, so I drilled a 10mm hole at the top opposite the handle and cut some slots up the top rim, taped the wiper to the handle just in case the wiper less stalk found a way to spring back on the windscreen, some good thumps inside the saucepan with the club hammer and sorted.

Quiet impressed with the saucepan puller, although her in doors isn't talking to me at the moment!, think it was TB that mentioned something along the lines of, dont mess with a woman and anything heavy that's got a handle attached to it.
