Title: Cannot disengage from Park...autobox+vibration
Post by: micky on 07 January 2011, 20:21:26
Hi Guys, the latest problems to arise on my 1999 Elite v6 are these. Sometimes (but becoming more regular) on starting up is not being able to deselect from Park and shift to any other position on the selector .  Everything is locked solid as the safety function on the box is staying on despite using the brake footbrake that would normally disengage the safety feature..........any ideas..........its bloody annoying if your in a hurry to go somewhere! Also I`ve got a vibration through the car at around 50/60 mph that you can feel transmitting through the gear selector ( thats of course when it allows me to drive it after getting it to go into Drive!!) as well as the body of the car. All of the rear suspension was changed by Wheels in Motion 4 months ago( Bilsteins, springs and bushes also new rear tyres, front tyres are only one year old and all of the wheel balancing has been re checked. Not sure if the two problems are related in some way? Probably two seperate issues but could the vibration have loosened anything?

not being able to shift out of Park is either:-
the solenoid on the gear selector is fubar'd ie the brake switch is supplying the 12 volts but the solenoid isn't disengaging the lock
or more likely, the brake switch itself is goosed. There's two sets of contacts in there so you might still have brake lights but no 12 volts off to the solenoid. It's a bit of a pain to change cos you end up upside down in the driver's footwell  ;D ;D ;D ;D
