Apologies in advance for a stupid question but......As my Air cond compressor is totally 'knackered' a shorter Aux belt has been fitted to bypass the compressor unit pulley. Can the Air cond compressor be removed from the Engine block safely and can the car still be driven whilst a replacement Air cond compressor is sourced ? Thanks

It is a very tight fit and alot of wiggling plus swearing will remove the pump. Havea look in the oarts for sale section David someone may have one. :y

I found that removing the pipes from the compressor first was needed to get the clearance to get the pump out. It was only one bolt on the top accessed from above, just make sure the seal is good and clean and the assembly is properly fitted before you bolt it back on.
As for running without it while you find a new one, apart from the securing the aircon pipe so it doesnt foul, I dont see why not. That said it only took a couple of ours to change so I would say to wait until you have a new one and do it there and then while it is fresh in your memory how it came out.

You can get them out with the pipes still connected, takes a bit of rotation clockwise and some tipping but they will come out.

Yep, the book of lies says the same thing. After 10 ins of trying I gave up and undid the fiting on the top of the pump (needs to come off eventually anyway) and the pump almost dropped out. Went straight back in too.
I do however appreciate that there is more than one way to skin a cat and am just offering my method in case it helps. I have pigs tits for fingers and cant always get them where others easily can.
