Title: Front Windscreen Rubber Seal
Post by: P6UL K on 30 December 2010, 00:07:42
I've gotta have a new windscreen fitted for the MOT in a few days time as it has a 6in crack running horizontally from the N/S A-pillar.

Does anyone have access to the Vx parts system to give me a rough idea on a price please?

I'm aware its prob bonded in but there's a rubber seal that runs across the top of the screen and its FUBAR.

Ta.

Should have screen cover with an excess circa £70-80

If auto glass replace your screen via insurance you pay 70 odd quid, therefor no other details are relevant, however during the course of having mine replaced it was made clear the gm screen is over £500 ! Plus auto glass will replace the seal as part of the job.

However I do not have access to the precise info you require.

You can but only for 24 hours, it's now timed out.

Try again at the bottom perhaps?

Ok, cheers Chris.

**Take 2**

I've noticed that the rubber seal that runs across the top of the screen is blistering and peeling away on the O/S, does anyone know the situation with the seal?  Is it one piece?  And will it be replaced under the windscreen insurance?

Does anyone have access to the Vx parts system to give me a rough idea on a price on the seal please?

If your talking about the plastic bit that goes over the top and the sides, its stops water running across to the side windows, then they dont normally replace it, once there pulled off they very rarely stay back in, theres a wire inside that can get bent and puts it out of shape.

I have stuck them back in with that black tube of roofing sealant, that black soft stuff that gets everywhere, with some success.

Well i'm £90 lighter due to the high windscreen excess my current insurer has  >:(

But i now have a nice new windscreen complete with new inner rubbers (included in the windscreen replacement) and new outter seals/rain channels supplied by me and my trade card.

MOT tomorrow now  :-X
