I had a load of work done on our 2.5 cdx when we brought it in december, including plugs rocker gaskets breathers cleaned, then it also had to have the leads and coilpack to cure its missfire problems, the engine oil was also flushed and replaced incl the oil filter. on collection i was told that the mechanic had spilled a small amount of oil whilst refilling the engine and it might smell for a day or 2.
We are still experiencing the oil smell and the car doesnt seem to be leaking oil but is dropping from somewhere a simliar looking substance to the build up that you sometimes get under the oil cap and is making a right bloody mess on my driveway to boot, does anyone on here have any idea whats gone wrong and a possible cure, the car isnt using a signifigant amount of oil or water and i'm a bit confused :question

Where in relation to the position of the car engine is it dropping the hellmans? Front? Rear? A corner?
-
think its more towards the rear of the engine bay, but nothings visible from the top :)

It could be as simple as the HBV and cam covers leaking and mixing on the way down. Get your fingers in behind the cam covers to feel if the half moons at the back are seated and dry. Same with the HBV, feel underneath it and see if it's dry.
You're only an hour away if you want me to come and roll a glass eye over it :y

Thanks will probably throw it back at the garage first and then take it from there, but many thanks for the offer :y

Well shout up if you get no joy :y

it may not be mayo when it leaves the car, due to cold weather the oil on driveways can turn to mayo, i see a LOT in my job. Put something under the car and see what it catches overnight

I agree, after my oil leak was fixed, this winter made the oil stain (quite a bad one) turn yellow mayo type when we had the big freeze, all gone now as it seems to be 11deg this morning

Might be worth degreasing the block and top of the sump.
Any water, from scuttle or coolant will turn to Mayo if it's running over an oil sodden block then onto the floor.
Try am aerosol of "gunk" and a hosing down after. Avoid any electrical components obviously.

The excuse you were given ,grease monkey spilling oil on refill-maybe, but after the work been done ,had they seated the filler tube correctly?because it's only a twist fit so maybe when the engine is running it is blowing oil out of the bottom of the filler tube. :y
