I have a vauxhall omega estate 2002 2.2 tdi.
I went to start it and although it turned over, it seemed very lumpy and there was alot of black smoke which smelt heavery of diesel. I tried to drive the car but the management light was on so it lacked power and belched smoke, and kept on miss firing.
The water temp. guauge was is not working. I took it to my usual garage, they put it on the tester but it didn't come up with any codes. They are stumped.
The only other thing is the day before it hapened I was stuck on a camber in the snow, I did rev a bit as I was getting out and the management light did flash a few times
I can't use it can someone help me please

EML light on, lack of power and lots of dark smoke = EGR valve stuck open. Take it off and give it a good clean with paint stripper, then lube it and re-fit :y
-
EML on - stick it on a code reader (sounds like you need to use somebody with better equipment to read the codes, or somebody who understands how to use the equipment)

The garage have checked and cleaned the EMG valve, no better.
They say they have checked the turbo and thats ok.
To change the fuel valve, they say minimum of 1 day to remove, and one day to fit new one+ £800 cost of valve.
have told me to scrap it.
Can someone help me make a decision or provide miracle cure.
thanks feeder54

go to another garage!!! their code reader is s**t. with eml on every reader should pick up something. rev counter working?? my eml stayed on when my crankshaft sensor was gone and in linp mode the car produces a lot of smoke, misfiring etc. your problem most likely is electric so no need to scrap it :). see what member is nea you with a code reader and you will have your car in working condition in no time ;)

need to get some one off hear near to you or a garage that can actualy read vauxhall omega codes and say scrap it tells me they clearly do not know what they are doing, eml light on means a code should be stored in ecu memory a fault is there, so for them to not get anything is bullshit, get some one with proper equipment for the job :y :y :y :y

another thing will pedal trick work with this model as is 2002,will give you code but bot sure with being dissel :y :y :y

You can't pedal trick any of the 4 pots, petrol or diesel.
Where are you feeder?

Crank sensor ok. Water temperature gauge not working. Codes as follows
The garage came up with P1220 start of injection control deviation.
P1590 Auxiliary heater- open circuit
The fuel tank is full.

Could be the DIS pack, that sometimes goes without EML codes showing.

won't have adis pack will it if it is dissel will it

i don't know much about diesels but it sounds like a timing issue if it's lumpy on turning over with the key?could the pump timing have slipped? just a thought
-
now how did the service got out these codes the second time is a miracle :)).this is what i got out of TIS(opel)
P1220 Critical system malfunction 1 (refer to checking procedure: trouble code description)
Actual start of injection value is out of range
Effect:
Maximum performance will be reduced.
The fuel system is very sensitive. Work should be done with high cleanliness and care. Air in the fuel system can cause damage to the injection pump. That's why the vehicle must never be driven till the fuel tank is empty.
Check fuel tank for correct fuel sort content
Check the concerned system for leaks
Check the correct fitting of the connections and sealing.
(use only sealing, that is approved by the vehicle manufacturer)
Plugging, leakage, air or water in fuel system
Note:
Bleed fuel system with KM-948 and suitable adapters.
Compare the data list parameters over the whole reachable engine-speed range.
Compare the following Data List Parameters:
Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
Desired Injection Start
&
Diagnostic Tester Data List Parameter
Actual Injection Start
if there is something with desired and actual then do this:
Check fuel tank for correct fuel sort content
Check connections of the fuel lines (Quick Fittings).
Check leak-oil lines.
Check condition of the three-way fittings.
Check the sealing of the fuel inlet and return lines at the injection pump.
(use only sealing, that is approved by the vehicle manufacturer)
Check tightening-torque of the hollow screws.
Check fuel filter
Point of breaks / scuff marks at the fuel or injection lines
this error is the worse error ever. it can be a seal, timing, injection pump to mechanical engine problems like pistons, valves etc. check all of the above then come back
p.s. is it diesel in your tank??

You right init, just reread the thread init, and I'm a c*** init! ;D

i would not go that far to calling your self a Lady bits lol we all make our mistakes lol

The garage have said that I should try a diesel expert. I had to drive the car home, had to wait for it to warm up-YES THE TEMP. GAUGE HAS DECIDED TO WORK. SMOKED LESS BUT ONLY MANAGED 15MPH.Engine management light on.
the garage were not happy with fitting a new pump, as if It didn't work they would be gutted. I would be £2000 down.
Thanks to everyone for the advice!!
Whats next??
best wishes Richard NEWPORT GWENT. :(

If P1220 can be caused by leaking fuel lines allowing air into the injector pump (or maybe squashed fuel line ?) and the problem started after you had the car grounded in snow I would start be checking all the fuel lines for damage and all the pipe connectors for signs of leakage.
